Happy As Can Bead began operation on February 16^th, 2008 as Need 2 Bead.  We are located in Canal Winchester, OH which has been our home town for the last 12 years. Canal Winchester was the perfect location to open our shop as we felt that our little corner of Columbus, OH had many individuals that already were into beading in addition to many others that were not yet aware of their passion for such a creative hobby.  We spent a lot of time searching for the perfect spot and we knew when we saw our retail space that we could call it home.  A home is what we feel we have created at Need 2 Bead/Happy As Can Bead.  From our staff to our customers, we couldn’t ask for a better extended family.  Our mission is to make all of our customers feel like part of the family while providing them with a comprehensive selection of beads, findings, tools and supplies. We are happy to say that we feel as those we bring those items to our customers or should I say our “beading family” although as with any business we need to continue to grow and bring our customers what they are looking for. 

I am often asked “Why did you decide to open a bead store?”  In addition to assisting in feeding the beading addiction of many, we wanted to open a business in the community that we live.  Small town business is how this country was created and we wanted to partake in keeping that alive in our Village.  With the high paced world that we live in, it is sometimes nice to slow down for a moment and experience a small store feel with a big sense of friendliness.  Also, we wanted to have a place that people could gather for birthday parties, company gatherings or other events and not feel as they had to have those experiences far from home.

In the Summer of 2010 we experienced an unfortunate situation.  We were notified that someone in another state trademarked a name that was similar to our name.  This causes us to initiate a contest with our customers to assist in our name change.  With over 100 entries, the decision was tough.  Since our customers are some of the most talented and creative individuals, we knew that we would have a great selection of names to choose from.  With our customers voting for the finalists, I am happy to say that in August 2010 we became Happy As Can Bead.  This was celebrated with a Re-Grand Opening at the end of the August 2010.

Beginning as having the “Need 2 Bead” we are now as “Happy As Can Bead”.  We hope that you are as “Happy As Can Bead” as well.
